چکیده

In the Next Linear Collider (NLC), the high power rf components must be capable of handling peak rf power levels in excess of 600 MW. In the current view of the NLC, even the rectangular waveguide components must transmit at least 300 MW rf power. At this power level, peak rf fields can greatly exceed 100 MV/m. We present recent results of high power tests performed at the Accelerator Structure Test Area (ASTA) at SLAC. These tests are designed to investigate the rf breakdown limits of several new components potentially useful for the NLC. In particular, we tested a new TE 01 –TE 10 circular to rectangular 'wrap-around' mode converter, a modified (internal fin) Magic Tee hybrid, and an upgraded 'flower petal' mode converter.

A High-power L-band Rf Window*

This paper discusses the design, fabrication and testing of a high power alumina disk window in WR1500 waveguide at L Band, suitable for use in the NLC damping ring RF cavities at 714 MHz and the LEDA Accelerator at 700 MHz. The design is based on the fabrication methods used for the successful PEP-II cavity windows. Four prototype windows at 700 MHz have been produced by LBNL for testing at LA...

The next Linear Collider Test Accelerator+

During the past several years, there has been tremendous progress on the development of the RF system and accelerating structures for a Next Linear Collider (NLC). Developments include high-power klystrons, RF pulse compression systems and damped/detuned accelerator structures to reduce wakefields. In order to integrate these separate development efforts into an actual X-band accelerator capabl...

SLAC RF Source Research at X-Band

X-band klystrons capable of 75 MW and utilizing either solenoidal or Periodic Permanent Magnet (PPM) focusing are undergoing design, fabrication and testing at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The klystron development is part of an effort to realize components necessary for the construction of the Next Linear Collider (NLC). SLAC has developed a solenoidal-focused X-band klystron ...

Overmoded Waveguide Components for High-Power RF

High-power applications of rf often require the use of overmoded waveguide to reduce the probability of rf breakdown by lowering surface fields, as well as to reduce the attenuation due to ohmic losses in transporting the power from the point of generation to the point of use. This is particularly true in the development of warm linear collider designs, such as NLC, JLC, and CLIC, especially th...

Beam Loading Compensation for the Low Frequency Linacs and Compressors in the Nlc

The low frequency rf linacs and bunch compressors in the NLC are heavily loaded by beam currents up to 0.9 A. Beam loading generates bunch-to-bunch energy deviations, which need to be compensated to operate with long bunch trains in the linear collider. There are two basic compensation techniques, namely T and F schemes. The F scheme is operationally straightforward but requires additional rf s...
